Chair – Darren Miller
Darren has been on the committee since the summer of 2019 and held the position of Chair since January 2020. Darren is currently taking a break from riding due to having to retire his ex-racer Rush due to a kissing spines diagnosis. He hopes to be back in the saddle soon but until then has taken the position of chief groom and tea drinker. Darren is a keen volunteer for the club and can often be seen helping out at our many shows and clinics.
Treasurer – Sandra Kay
Competition Secretary – Susan Whiteford
Susan is a happy hacker but her main horsey job is head groom and driver to her daughter Eilidh. Susan has supported Eilidh through Pony Club, as entries secretary for competitions and child protection. Eilidh has now moved on to eventing and Susan is now involved with SDG as our competition secretary. The club would be lost without the amazing effort that Susan puts in and she was awarded a special trophy as recognition for all the work she does for the club.
Safe Guarding Officer – Claire Scott
Claire is currently competing to medium level Dressage and was recently crowned the 2022 Elementary Silver Freestyle Scottish Champion. Claire also enjoys competing in working hunter showing classes. Claire is a BHS Level 3 Freelance Riding Instructor providing her services across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Social Media – Craig Donnelly
Craig joined the committee in January 2022. He has worked in the equestrian industry since graduating from Oatridge Agricultural College in 2014 and has worked on livery yards, an eventing yard and currently as a freelance groom alongside previously working at Horse & Outdoor. Craig brings his IT skills to the committee to help with the promotion of our events and help with growth of the club.
Membership Secretary – Lisa Rothwell
Lisa’s riding began in Africa, where she grew up. Lisa rode all kinds of horses and did everything, from gymkhana games, to eventing and even some racing. After a 35 year break from horses, Lisa bought her own horse in 2017 and dipped her toe into the world of dressage, thanks to the welcoming and friendly ethos of SDG. Lisa is looking forward to competing on her horse (Nifty) and hopefully working their way up the levels. With luck and courage, they hope to do a spot of XC and Show Jumping too.
Karen Scott
Karen Joined the club in 2019 and is responsible for keeping records of all the minutes for the club and is utterly brilliant at this. Karen likes that our club offers a great introduction to competing and a warm and friendly atmosphere. Karen has loved horses for as long as she can remember, it has been a lifelong dream of Karen’s to have her own horse. Karen and her horse (Tomos) enjoy lessons, beach rides and currently compete at Prelim dressage.
